Tory Lanez drops Alone At Prom on 12/10/21

Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson is a multi-talented rapper/singer/ & producer. He manages to do multiple of things and some of the world compare him to Drake but honestly, he is more lyrical and he sings way better than Drake. He may not have the charisma stance Drizzy got but at least he got something to showforth. If you look back before the shooting incident, Tory Lanez Dropped Chixtape 5 on 11/15/2019 where he remixes all of his favorite 2000’s hits. This surprised me and made me a huge Tory Lanez fans. I even when to work listening to this in my ear phones with a mean mug because of the hard energy it brings. Tory can also rap and if you pay attention to mixtapes like New Toronto hosted by DJ Drama, it does prove my point.

Tory Lanez inspired 80’s album, Alone At Prom takes a ride through the 80's

I first noticed Tory Lanez at a friends house when he told me Drake had competition. This was 2010 and he was very close to signing a deal with Sean Kingston. I do not know why he shelved him but Kingston had a gem on his label and did not even know it. Tory Lanez rapping over the Dark Twisted instrumental by Kanye West made him known to me and aware of the talent he possess. This multi-talented artist has a bright future coming.

Tory Lanez

On 12/10/2021, he drops Alone at Prom. An album dedicated and inspired by the 80s. This is a great experimentation album and it reminds me of Kanye’s 808 & Heartbreaks where he sings over alternative, techno, and electronic instrumentals. This album is special because it shows creativity and that is what music needs nowadays. There is hardly any originality in the game and with Lanez dropping jewels, he can hold his name quite close.

Tory Lanez 80’s Flashback

As we go deep into each track, there is a reason this album was released. Tory Lanez makes it known he is not to be reckoned with and with the pressure on him, that does not stop Tory Lanez from performing his heart out.

  1. Enchanted Waterfall- Enchanted Waterfall should of been used for a 80’s remake movie like Sixteen Candles if they ever make a remake. He talks about the love he experienced and he dives deep into the beat as he performs the way they did in the 80's
  2. Pink Dolphin Sunset Feat. Tee- This song, I could see this on the remake to Saved By The Bell as it gets played at the Max while Zack & Slater gossip about Kelly & Jessie while Screech stalks Lisa Turtle.
  3. Midnights Interlude- Lanez almost sounded like George Michael on Pride Without Prejudice Vol. 1. For those that don’t know, that is one of George’s best album and if he was alive, he would acknowledge this song because of the influence he drawn from the 80's.
  4. The Color Violet- This is my favorite song on the album because of the experimentation. Growing up in a house where 80’s pop music is constantly played, this would be a fuse between Depeche Mode (Strange Love) mixed with Pet Shop Boys (West End Girsl). This song is so cool, I would drive all day to this song on repeat.
  5. Lavender Sunflower- Lanez creativity spreads all over the song and if you listen closely, he almost sounds like Michael Jackson before he turned white. I think that was the theme and with Lanez singing on this, an 80’s pop icon should of been on it. Debbie Gibson (Foolish Beat) reassuring voice would be the perfect remix. If not this song, any of them.
  6. Ballad Of A Badman- Remember the beginning scene of the Karate Kid before dude met Mr. Myagi? This song would be perfect background music. My family who grew up on 80’s music would be reminded of how grand the 80’s was if they heard this song.
  7. Lady Of Namek- Namek is a planet on Dragonball Z and the lady he is chasing is from a different planet. Can you blame him? Gotta find someone who stands out, not blend in.
  8. Pluto’s Last Comet- This Madonna flip is amazing and I do not know why she is hating for. Tory Lanez makes the world diddy bop like the people in Scarface where Tony met Hancock from Baltimore.
  9. 87' Stingray- This song should be on Grand Theft Auto on the scene where they do a heist on the beach. Songs like this make me wish I was born in the 80's.
  10. Hurt From Mercury- Tory Lanez is literally using his inner 80’s rendition to create a song to ride to. This song makes me want to put on my British Knights on and ask Kimberly from Different Strokes (Rest In Peace) to the prom. Matter of fact, if she turns me down, let me ask Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy from Different World) out if she rejects me.
  11. Last Kiss Of Nebulon- I salute Tory Lanez for this last track using reference from Marvel Comics to create something. Comic books was apart of get away from life and those who collected comics back then can tell you that collecting and reading was a part of growing up in the 80’s. Being creative is what Lanez is good for and with this reference, this is pure talent.

Overall

Tory Lanez being creative

Tory Lanez proved once again he can rise and with this album, he can piece together a culture to be themselves and experiment with sounds and lyrics. Tory Lanez proved you can be creative with the talent you hold and Alone At Prom proves once again that he has creative control over his music.

Being able to make an album is one thing but being creative is a part of growing in your music. Tory Lanez showed plenty of growth in his music as he releases new inspired projects. I am also aware he shows pure confidence as he boast about the music he puts out. Being in that position, you can step on so many levels and I would call Alone At Prom the newer generation, 808 & Heartbreaks. I love this project too much to the point, I added all the songs to my self-care playlist.
